Hi All, Becky here. Hope your spring is off to a great start! We love the promise of a new season and find that traveling is one of the best ways for us to reset.

In fact, we just returned from an amazing trip to Spain. Our son is studying abroad in Madrid and we were lucky enough to visit him for a week in early April. It was really special to see the city through our son’s eyes. Everyday was a new adventure with new sights to see.

As a happy accident, we discovered the haute couture abanico (hand fan) salon of Oliver Bernoux. They supply all the abanicos to the Spanish royal family. Their craftsmanship is incredible, all fans are handmade with feathers, chains and jewels. One was more beautiful than the other, so of course we had to buy several for our team! Did you know in Spanish culture, there is an entire language devoted to the use of a hand fan? They are called weapons of seduction, each flutter and wave of the fan means something! We are framing the fan we brought back and will share pictures when it’s done! It’s quite unexpected, cheeky and fun!

This majestic building with the Spanish flag is the Royal Palace of Madrid. We walked right into a Semana Santa parade with a marching band, and a procession of massive floats carrying religious statues to the cathedral. Semana Santa translates into Holy Week. It was an incredible glimpse of Spanish culture.

We also did a day trip to the ancient city of Segovia. Segovia has been called one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, with its ancient Roman aqueduct and its Royal Alcazar (or castle), The castle is said to have served as one of the inspirations for Walt Disney’s Cinderella’s Castle. Pretty cool to see the real thing! We found inspiration in the brightly colored tiles and beautifully manicured gardens.

Spain is a magnificent country and we left feeling rejuvenated, inspired and ready to tackle all the upcoming projects we have on deck at Lola Tucker Interiors. We have some exciting news to share very soon, including the redo of a community gathering space that is meaningful to many! Stay tuned for more updates!

Cheers!
