If you read our May intro, you know the importance of dragonflies to our family. As a refresher, we had been looking for an investment property/vacation home in Manchester, Vermont for months, but the real estate market was so competitive during Covid that we kept getting outbid! In an out of character move, we bought our house sight unseen. We saw listing pictures, of course, but did not see the actual home until we were well into contract. It was a nerve-wracking move. We had no idea what we were walking into. When we finally saw the house in person, there were dragonfly suncatchers, dragonfly pictures, and dragonfly magnets everywhere throughout the house. Even though rehabbing the house was a bigger project than we first expected, seeing the dragonflies everywhere gave us some comfort. It was as if my mom was saying it was all going to be ok.

We assembled a wonderful team of local craftsmen and tradespeople and got to work. Of course, nothing ever runs exactly to plan, especially in the middle of a global pandemic, but the finished product is incredible! We loved collaborating with our team, and we were able to pivot, and problem solve as needed.

We enjoyed the house together as a family over the holidays and did a test run to make sure we weren’t missing anything when we were ready to rent it out. We made sure to stock up on plenty of board games, books, snuggly blankets, high end cookware and all the accouterments needed for a fancy cocktail party! (Guests have to supply their own liquor.)

Manchester is a great location for second homes and vacation rentals. We love it so much, we decided to open another Lola Tucker Interiors location and reached out to Stratton Magazine to discuss our expansion into Southern New England. Stratton Magazine was wonderful to work with and ended up doing a feature article on Dragonfly Cottage and Lola Tucker Interiors that can be found here. The article ran in January, and we were very pleased with the reception from the local community!

Dragonfly Cottage officially opened for rentals in February, and we are happy to report we have had a great experience as short-term rental hosts. We have been lucky enough to have renters every weekend since we opened, and we are completely booked for the months of June and July! Neighboring Dorset, Vermont hosts a nationally renowned horse show in June and July and our July guests are accomplished equestrians. We can’t wait to host them! We have worked hard to obtain Super Host status and have nothing but 5-Star Reviews on Airbnb. We continually make upgrades to the space, including adding a very cabin chic vinyl wallpaper from Phillip Jeffries in our powder room! We recently stained the deck and are adding air conditioning this week.

It’s always a work in progress, but it’s been a labor of love. We hope to continue to make improvements to the cottage and enjoy it as a family for years to come!
